Quarantine and Anxiety - Starting and Adoption process
Hello everyone,
I hope you are all safe and healthy. If you or someone you know as been infected, I pray that you or they are feeling better and are on the path to healing. For all those of you how have lost someone to Covid-19, I keep you in prayer - I can only imagine your pain and suffering.
We adopted our third child at the beginning of all this Covid pandemic. We felt pretty blessed because we wondered how we would feel if we were still on the waiting list. Would we have said yes or would we have postponed adopting because of the fear of getting infected and then passing it on to our kids.
I will be honest and say that we would probably have postponed it. My husband being a healthcare worker, he views this situation very differently. He looks at the numbers each day and keeps track of that curve - which in our state has flattened but there have been no sign of decrease in new cases. He suspects that a new lockdown will be put in place - who knows?
Yet, in spite of this pandemic, adoptions are still going on. Birthmoms are still giving birth and adoption plans are still being made. Is it scary to know that you may be in a situation where only one of you can visit the baby or maybe not even visit your baby because of Covid??
Bottom line - it all depends on your level of comfort. With us, we would only visit one at a time and we would limit our visits. We made sure we disinfected our cars and washed our hands like crazy - I even lost one of the small stones from my engagement ring. But we did what we had to do in order to make sure that our new baby was taken care of. We won't lie - it was amazing to have in home with us. It was getting stressful near the end because we could not enter the hospital without having someone ask us questions and we received special tags to be able to enter.
Should you not adopt at this time? I don't think you should stop yourself from growing your family. I am sure that it can be scary but know that your local hospitals are ensuring that all their patients are being kept safe. Don't worry about Covid because those patients are not in those wards and all hospital staff know what they need to do to prevent any spread to patients and visitors. You may find yourself in a situation where both of you cannot go visit or bring any family members, but that is nothing compared to the greatest joy of being with your baby!
Don't let Covid take away your chance of growing your family. This small yet lethal virus has already taken so much from us. Know you are in my prayers - this is usually a happy time but in these uncertain times - who knows?
Keep safe, wash your hands and do not touch your face. One more thing - just because your state is reopening, it does not mean that this pandemic is over...it only means that your hospital can take in more patients. Be smart about your surroundings! Social distancing should still be respected!!
Let's keep safe and stop the spread of Covid!
