Drinking warm coffee - such a luxury and we don't know it!
Hello everyone,
I hope that when you read this post, you are safe and healthy. I know many states have reopened, but you still need to be careful. Easing restrictions does not mean that the pandemic is over, it only means that there is place for you in the ICU.
Since this quarantine has started, there have been many things that I have missed. Here are my top five:
1) Being able to run errands
2) Having lunch with friends
3) Going out on a date with my husband
4) Attending Mass
5) DRINKING WARM COFFEE
Why did I write that last one in all caps??? As a Mom - I know many of you Moms will totally get this one - you are never able to eat or drink anything warm and that includes your morning coffee. Before we adopted our newborn, I was able to wake up very early (5 to 5:30am) and enjoy my coffee with my breakfast and do some chores around the house before the kids woke up. Now, because we have irregular nights due to his nightly feeds, getting and early start on my day has gone down the drain...
Don't get me wrong - I would not trade been a Mom for anything...not even warm coffee, but what a treat it was when I could enjoy my coffee warm and not get interrupted. My most common interruptions are: my kids are throwing food like it was darts, a kids decided that peanut butter can be a hair lotion (yes, hair lotion) or somebody started crying or wanting something as I am attempting to eat or drink. In all honesty, that is what being a Mom is - you always come last, because that is what a Mom does.
It wasn't until this quarantine and our newborn that it shocked me how much of a luxury it was to have the ability to drink my coffee warm. I was surprised that something that I enjoyed on a daily basis was, in fact, such a luxury.
From my realization, I noticed that we do take a lot of the simple things we do on a daily basis, for granted. We take them for granted because we don't ever think that they can be removed from us. We believe that things can never change. This does not only apply for warm coffee, but even for being able to shop like we used to, or go out and meet family and friends, like we used to. It makes you think about all those things or people that you put off because you wanted to work more and now...you have all this time and you can't even make up for lost time.
Therefore, I have made it a point to be even more grateful, even with the most basic things because now I do know that they can be removed from me, at any given time. Let's not take things and even more importantly, people for granted.
Before all of this, we went about our lives always in a rushed manner. We never really, let's be honest about it, took the time to actually live and enjoy the present. Most men did not spend as much time with their families because they were working...same with most women. We took everything for granted - and then, it was taken away from us.
I have been so privileged to have a couple of mornings where I was able to have my coffee and breakfast warm and without interruptions and it was glorious! Each time I go out with my kids, I enjoy each moment. Every evening that I spend inside with my husband, I enjoy because, at least, I have a husband - so many wives have lost their spouse in this pandemic.
So, what did you take for granted? What have you been missing since this all started? What are you now most grateful for?
Remember to be safe, wash your hands and not touch your face. Stop the spread of Covid-19.
