Quarantine and Anxiety - Sleep

Hello everyone,

I pray that when you read this post, you are healthy and safe. If you are sick, I keep you in prayer and hope that you recover. If you have lost someone to this horrible virus, you are in my prayers and I am sorry for your loss.

It has been more than a month since our family has been staying at home and practicing social distancing. Even a walk in the neighborhood brings anxiety and concern as we find ourselves changing sidewalks to prevent coming into contact with someone. We look at each other with fear and anxiety - when will this end?

How is your sleep? One would think that there would be a lot of time to sleep, but with what we see in the news, it seems that sleep is the last thing on our minds. Since this all started, my sleep has been erratic and even with three small children, it seems like I cannot just rest my mind.

To fall asleep, I must listen to music, a show or just mindless background noise to see if I can fall asleep. Yet, I must say that within the week, I may get about one good and great night of sleep - the other six are mediocre, at best. And some...it feels like I closed my eyes and then POUF - time to get up and take care of the kids and the household.

I have tried to go to bed earlier, but there is so much to do once the kids are in bed. We need to tidy up and get the next day ready. It may also be the time we have to actually spend some time together - yet, when we do, we pay for it greatly the next morning....

Falling asleep seems like a good idea when all the kids are down, but then I get in bed and it starts. I find myself watching the news to see if there have been any new developments. Has a vaccine come out? - quite unlikely, since those things can take up to a year to a year and a half. Has there been a new treatment? nope, still no concrete proof that there is anything out there that can help with this horrific virus.

How to cope with all of this? not sure. I just tell myself that it will have to end, because we can't go on like this forever...but still, the fact that it's only been one month and that we may need to go longer on this stay-at-home order... yikes!!!

I want to know how you are doing? How are you coping? Let me know.

Remember to keep safe, wash your hands and do not touch your face. Do not leave your house unless it is a necessity. If you go on a walk, remember to keep your distance with others and wear a mask or scarf, anything to prevent you from touching your face. Be smart and be safe and keep healthy.
