Quarantine and Anxiety - New Blog Post Series

Hello everyone,

I hope that this post finds you healthy and keeping your social distances. Let's keep united in this fight against this virus by keeping our distance!

My blog is only about my own personal experiences and that is why I started it. And so, I have dealt with adoption, infertility and other matters pertaining to those fields. But, that is not all that I experience.

I have chronic anxiety and suffered a severe depression a few years ago. Although I survived and conquered my depression, the anxiety stuck around like a bad habit.

I do have medication, that I only take when it gets bad, and have regular therapy sessions - currently undergoing a treatment called EMDR. And combined with exercise, sleep (when I can) and a good diet (no worries, I do still like chips and ice cream), it has been relatively well maintained.

However, with this quarantine among us, it has been non-stop anxiety city in my head and my menstrual cycles (TMI - sorry, but that's life!) have been taking a hit. It seems that whether I watch the news, don't watch the news, keep contact with family and friends, don't keep contact with family and friends, no matter how busy I am... the anxiety is there, it's constant and it is wreaking havoc on me.

Am I the only one that is suffering from this? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I just want you all to know that you are not alone. We, together, can beat this anxiety in the midst of this quarantine. We can allow ourselves to be anxious and let others know because I am pretty convinced that there are many who are getting anxious...

How to survive it? I am not sure yet, but can tell you that praying, for me, has been a big help. It also helps that my spouse can spot it and he is able to support me, even if it mean listening to my worries. I have also allowed myself to be anxious and to take that medication (even if half) to help me calm down.

I want this series to be an inside into my world which can hopefully get you to reach out to those around you and get the support you need.

We will see where this series leads us and until then - wash your hands, don't touch your face and most importantly, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HOUSE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO.

Keep safe and healthy.
SM
