Mom Life - I Left the House with Soup on my Face

Hello everyone,

I hope that when you read this post, you are safe and healthy. We are, again, going through another Covid scare as my husband is awaiting results. We are taking precautions and the risk is very low, but having him quarantined in the basement is just not my idea of fun... So, if you or a loved one are or have been infected, I keep you in prayer. Remember to keep safe by washing your hands, not touching your face, wearing a face mask and only going out of the house if you have to.

You read my title correctly - I left the house with soup on my face. Not only did that happen, but I only noticed it as I was looking at myself in the rearview mirror. I was too far from home to go back and had to just roll with it. As I watched the soup smeared and caked on my cheek together with some of it caked in my hair, I thought: "Well, at least it means that my kids are eating without the help of a feeding tube..."

Right now, I wonder how many Moms are you there with food on their face, hair and clothes - because food on clothes is a daily occurrence here. And it happens because kids are just messy. It is the main reason why I wear dresses with busy patterns because it makes stains hard to detect. I don't even approach a dress in the store (now mostly online) that is one color - especially a white or beige one.

In the grand scheme of things, I am lucky that it was not poop - that would be the worst. Although, I do get some on my hands when the kids get a big load... Still, there is nothing more embarrassing that showing up somewhere and having food or whatever on either your face or clothes...

Then again, why would I be embarrassed? This sort of things happens to ALL MOMMIES!!! It happens because our kids are alive and healthy. It happens because they are playing and thriving. It happens because they live in the now and just are living. It is us, adults, who take things so seriously and drain ourselves because we want everything to be immaculate.

Immaculate...yeah, that is impossible with children. I had to accept that my beautiful coffee table is now a sticker table. It actually is irreparable because the glue cannot come off safely and so...it's our sticker table. Our chairs are constantly sticky together with the floor - which begs me to clean it each night with our mop.

I could get upset and put my kids in boxes so that they don't touch me or touch anything in the house - but that is not the correct thing to do. The correct thing to do is to go with it. They will be small and to ourselves for such a small amount of time. Within the blink of an eye, they will be big and will no longer need me...until then, I am actually enjoying looking at all the toys and books spread around the kitchen area. I enjoy when our daughter starts to splash water during her bath. I enjoy seeing them put the books on the floor to read them (well, reading is a big term - mostly looking at the pictures).

In doing so, it brought me more peace and joy. So what if things are a bit disorganized? It is so because my kids are healthy and able to play. Some Moms would be so happy to see their house in such disarray...unfortunately, they are in a hospital room and just praying that their kids feels better... I don't want to be a downer, but we need to put things in perspective, from time to time.

I will leave the house many other times with food or whatever stuck to my body and clothes. I have accepted it and so should you. We were made stronger than we think and a little food or other substance on ourselves will not kill us. We are Moms and we can take a lot! So, kids, bring it on!

Do you have an embarrassing story about having food or something else on you while being out in public? Do share and let's build our community!

Until my next post, let's keep safe and healthy. Let us stop the spread of Covid-19, but let's us never stop spreading kindness.
